The most important Federal Reserve meeting in nearly a decade is going on right now. Tomorrow at 2:00 the Federal Open Market Committee will announce whether it will raise interest rates for the first time in nearly nine years or continue its controversial zero interest rate policy. Whatever happens, I expect to see a 300 to 500 point swing in the Dow immediately following the announcement. I have been saying for years that Interest rates will remain lower for longer than most people believed. I continue to think that is the case. However, it is clear that many of the Fed Governors, who lived through a different era where rampant inflation was a problem, are itching to make at least a token quarter point move in the Federal Funds Rate. Whether that move happens in September or as late as early 2016 remains to be seen. Prior to the recent global turmoil I thought that we would likely see a 25 basis point move in September. Now I'm not so sure. Vote Now, "Disagree" for no hike & "Agree" for a hike. My vote is "Disagree," that the Fed will push back its token quarter point hike another meeting or two, so there will be no move in September. What do you think? Will the Fed raise rates tomorrow? Vote above and let state your case below.
